This course addresses the following aims and learning outcomes
Aims:
- to
provide an understanding of the roles of
the translator and interpreter within different cultural
contexts;
- to
develop skills for effective and appropriate management and mediation of
intercultural communication;
- to
provide experiences highlighting the complexities of
intercultural communication.
Learning Outcomes
When you complete the course you will be able to
- reflect
on and evaluate your professional and more general performances in terms
of the complexities of intercultural communication;
- apply
key understandings of intercultural communication in professional and
wider mediation contexts;
- develop
pro-active models of professional behaviour.

Main course activities
Over the six months of the course you will be
- reading
and learning from the course materials;
- reading
excerpts from the course’s ‘Recommended reading’ book selection;
- participating
in the e-discussion list and the one-day face-to-face event;
- communicating
with your tutor and the other course participants;
- developing
your
portfolio of five assignments which show your progress after each course unit.
