Studying and living internationally - how to handle it

  19 June 2009, Sofia

One World and Aha Moments organise a one day seminar for prospective and current university students who plan to study internationally.

Starting university abroad can be a challenging experience. Preparing for the culture shock you are likely to experience will help you avoid some of the mistakes others have made and handle intercultural situations with confidence.

The seminar focuses on three aspects of student life:

  • the transition from home to a foreign country;

  • meeting new people and presenting oneself, and

  • understanding the new rules of academic study.

At the seminar you

… play a simulation game which starts you thinking about these major transitions you are going to confront;

… perform activities to master strategies for noting differences, understanding them, and revising you perceptions;

… learn and gain confidence in your ability to overcome disturbing experiences and manage on your own.

Required level of written and spoken English: upper-intermediate /advanced.
